ConsenSys reveals partnership with China’s blockchain service
ConsenSys Quorum, ConsenSys’s Ethereum-based distributed ledger protocol, will be available in major Chinese cities including Beijing, Xiong’an and Hangzhou
One of the world’s largest blockchain software enterprises, ConsenSys has announced that it will be partnering with the Chinese government-backed nationwide blockchain project, Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN), to accelerate the enterprise adoption of Ethereum apps in China.
The partnership will enable ConsenSys Quorum, the blockchain software company’s Ethereum-based distributed ledger protocol to feature on BSN’s ecosystem. The protocol is expected to be available in 80 different cities across mainland China through BSN’s public nodes.
ConsenSys director Charles d’Haussy confirmed that ConsenSys Quorum will be available in Beijing, Xiong’an and Hangzhou and other major cities through the announcement yesterday.
BSN’s Interchain Communications Hub will make the ConsenSys GoQuorum, an open-source Ethereum client that is part of the ConsenSys Quorum, interoperable with frameworks and protocols on BSN.
Further, the BSN will also be equipped with ConsenSys Codefi, ConsenSys’ blockchain application suite that will allow access to apps such as Orchestrate, Workflow and Assets in the BSN marketplace, the announcement explained.
“We believe that the different open-source blockchain protocols need to interoperate, and with the BSN we are taking a significant step forward in bringing ConsenSys Quorum to many enterprises in China that could benefit from transparent collaborative business networks”, Joseph Lubin, the founder of ConsenSys said.
Lubin, who is also the co-founder of Ethereum, founded ConsenSys in 2014 to create a space focused on building software products on top of the Ethereum blockchain. Today, ConsenSys is one of the world’s biggest blockchain software technology company and Lubin believes that the company’s latest partnership will further allow it to tap a larger, deeper market in China.
Monday’s announcement also revealed that the company plans to package the ConsenSys Quorum on the BSN with other public mainstream permissioned blockchain networks and sell directly to businesses and governments. Currently, the BSN supports a number of major blockchains including Ethereum, EOSIO, Tezos, Polkadot.
Further, ConsenSys will collaborate with the BSN to develop and deliver training programs to enable the use of ConsenSys Quorum in China.
Yifan He, the executive director of the BSN Development Association stated that BSN will begin including Quorum in its training programs from this year itself to “substantially accelerate the enterprise adoption of blockchain technology and Ethereum-based solutions in China.”
The Blockchain-based Service Network is a blockchain initiative by the State Information Center of China, a think tank under the National Development and Reform Commission. Piloted in 2019, the BSN has deployed more than 2,000 blockchain apps across enterprises and government organisations in China. It aims to complete the integration of 10 permissioned and 30 more public blockchain protocols by the end of 2021.
