Coinbase launches price alert feature for mobile users

The largest US cryptocurrency exchange and wallet operator, Coinbase, has launched a new service that will sent real-time price alerts for any cryptocurrency supported on the company’s platforms. The feature, which will be available to users of Coinbase’s iOS and Android apps, is part of the company’s effort to make its platform “the best place for you to find the information you want on crypto”.

“Now, automatically find out when the market moves on the crypto you care about most — no need to go check websites or your app,” Coinbase wrote in a blog post yesterday.

Following an app update, users will get the option to enable notifications, Coinbase explained. Then users will receive price alerts for any cryptocurrency on their “Watchlist”. Consumers can opt into alerts for certain assets, and when the prices of those assets shift substantially up or down, they will receive notifications about the percentage change.

In its current state, the price alert feature covers assets tradable on Coinbase, but the company plans to expand it in the future.

“We’re excited about price alerts’ potential to empower crypto experts, educate newcomers to the space, and continue engaging people in crypto,” Coinbase said.

The company has launched a number of initiatives aimed at educating consumers about the cryptocurrency sector. Last year, Coinbase launched informational asset pages for the top 50 digital currencies by market capitalisation, as well as real-time news feature, showing articles about crypto from various publications. In addition, the company also launched the Coinbase Earn programme, which rewards users with crypto for watching educational videos and completing other educational tasks. Just over a month ago Coinbase expanded the Earn programme to more than 100 countries around the world. Currently, users can earn Stellar Lumens (XLM), ZCash (ZEC), Basic Attention Token (BAT), and 0x (ZRX) through the programme.
